Water‐Gas Shift Reaction in a Microchannel Ni‐based Catalytic Coated Reactor: Effect of Solvents

Abstract: Medium-temperature shift (MTS) reaction was investigated in a microchannel reactor using the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method to coat porous layers of Ni-K/CeO 2 catalyst on stainless-steel plates. The electrolyte suspensions of the catalyst were prepared in isopropanol, ethanol, methanol, and acetone as solvents. All EPD experiments were carried out under similar conditions (i.e., for a contact time of 3 min, at a voltage of 140 V, and in the presence of 0.3 wt % polyethylenimine as the dispersant). Th… Show more

“…Increasing the GHSV for the bimetallic catalyst diminishes CO 2 conversion because the time‐on‐stream and amount of adsorbed reactants will decrease. Besides, the bimetallic selectivity for CH 4 production reduces due to the conversion of CO 2 to carbon monoxide in the reverse water‐gas shift reaction 73, 74: truenormalC normalO2 + normalH2 normalCO+ normalH2 normalO …”

“…A planetary ball‐milling apparatus was used comprising two stainless‐steel cups (each with 300 mL), various stainless‐steel balls with diameters of 0.95, 1.35, 1.76, and 1.94 cm. Furthermore, the milling was conducted without additive 44 .…”

“…Stirring was performed for 15 minutes followed by sonicating for 15 minutes to avoid particle agglomeration and enhance the particle dispersion. The catalyst layers were deposited using cathodic electrophoretic procedure 44 . To make anode electrodes (22 mm × 32 mm × 1 mm), stainless steel (SUS304) plates were used.…”

“…The structure and morphology of casted solution is formed according to the miscibility of the solvent and nonsolvent and the difference in chemical and physical properties of matrix polymer may cause delamination during coagulation process. Therefore, the thermodynamic properties of different mixtures should be considered to find optimum type of solvent and nonsolvent [61,69,70]. The ternary phase diagram should be used to determine the miscibility of polymers, solvents, and nonsolvent to estimate the optimum condition to fabricate integrated multi-layer membrane.…”
