Wave features for consistent-order-extended thermodynamics

Abstract: Linear and nonlinear waves propagating in a heat conductive gas described by Consistent-Order-Extended Thermodynamics of third order are studied. Firstly, the propagation of plane harmonic waves are analyzed and the frequency dependence of the phase velocity and of the attenuation is shown. Furthermore, our results are compared with the ones obtained in the context of Extended Thermodynamics at thirteen moments and with the experimental data. Finally, the propagation of acceleration waves is studied. The amplit… Show more

“…This consistency of order around equilibrium, which is the basis of the second choice, brings to mind the article [19] where, however, the consistency was based on the choice of moments to be withheld or refused. But the equations that came out were so complicated that no one had the courage to work on it, despite the subsequent simplified versions [20] , [21]. Since it has no relation to the ideas here reported, we limit ourselves to remember with appreciation the existence of these articles.…”

“…Closure in this theory is an automatic consequence of the assignment of order. As a partial list of papers on this subject, we cite here Müller et al (2003), Barbera (2005), Reitebuch (2005), Müller & Reitebuch (2002), Weiss (2006), Sugiyama & Zhao (2006) and Barbera & Valenti (2006). More precisely, §4 will show that equations (1.5) have to be substituted by .…”
