Abstract:Floating production storage and offloading systems (FPSOs) are gaining prominence in the offshore industry. FPSOs are generally designed to weathervane, necessitating surge vibration control for station keeping. Since the natural period of surge vibration is far higher than the dominant period of the input wave load, instead of supplemental damping, a high inertial device, such as the tuned mass damper inerter (TMDI), would be effective.
