“…We also measured two of the branches from the 2p5 'Po term, and the mean lives we obtained show excellent consistency. The f values which we have derived from them are in satisfactory agreement with the results of Hartree-Fock calculations by Safronova and Bolotin (1976 Kelly and Palumbo (1973) (1973b), and give f values for the 2p 'Po-2s2p2 ' S and 2s2p2 2D-2p3 'Po transitions in agreement with theoretical estimates. On the other hand, the results we have obtained using the Ne VI transitions at 402 and 453 A give oscillator strengths which are definitely in better agreement with calculations than those obtained from the previous mean-life measurements in this laboratory by Irwin et al This improvement is almost certainly due to the much improved intensity we obtained with the new grating for the present measurements, and the higher time resolution (narrower grating mask) that it made possible.…”

“…We have thus assigned accuracies of ± 50 percent to the tabulated data. 15 It is expected that for the relatively simple, essentially two-electron spectrum of Cr v, Kurucz and Peytremann's data should be fairly reliable. This conjecture seems to be supported by the good consistency between similarly calculated values and lifetime measurements for the iso· electronic ion Ti III [2].…”

“…In the case of V I, relatively old experimental data had to be used: the results of an absorption experiment of King [14], reported in 1947, which covers 471 lines (of which we presented data for the more prominent lines), and the less extensive results of the anomalous dispersion (hook) measurements of Ostrovskii and Penkin (1958) [15]. Where the two sets of data overlapped (normalized to the same absolute scale), the agreement was consistently good-in an cases within 50%.…”
