Weakly nonlinear dust ion-acoustic shock waves in a dusty plasma with nonthermal electrons

Abstract: Weakly nonlinear dust ion-acoustic (DIA) shock waves are investigated in a dusty plasma with nonthermal electrons. A modified Korteweg–de Vries equation with a cubic nonlinearity is derived. Due to the net negative dust charge μZd and electron nonthermality, the present plasma model can admit compressive and rarefactive weak DIA shock waves. The effect of increasing μZd is to lower the critical nonthermal parameter βc above which only rarefactive DIA shock waves are admitted. Our investigation may help to unde… Show more

“…Such a study of dusty plasma consisting of Cairns non-thermal distributed ions has been made by several authors (Mamun et al 1996b;Mendoza-Briceño et al 2000;Maharaj et al 2004Maharaj et al , 2006Verheest and Pillay 2008;Das et al 2009Das et al , 2010. Berbri and Tribeche (2009) have investigated weakly nonlinear DIA shock waves in a dusty plasma with non-thermal electrons. Recently, Baluku et al (2010a) have investigated DIASWs in an unmagnetized dusty plasma consisting of cold dust particles and kappa distributed electrons using both small and arbitrary amplitude techniques.…”
