Web-based interventions for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease: systematic review and future directions

Abstract: Behavioral intervention technologies (BITs), the application of psychological and behavioral interventions through the use of technology, provide the opportunity for clinicians to deliver care through a means that overcomes a number of treatment barriers. Web-based interventions are a subset of BITs developing as promising alternatives to face-to-face delivery of treatments and monitoring for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). A systematic review of literature resulted in five empi… Show more

“…The BIT model defines BITs in terms of the “why,” “how,” “what,” and “when,” to support the translation of clinical aims and behavioral strategies into BIT technologies. 36 This model is useful both for the design and definition of BITs, 37 , 38 as well as for literature reviews. 39 The BIT model has two broad levels: a theoretical action level, which represents the intentions of the developer or researcher, and an instantiation level, which represents the technological implementation.…”

Patients and family members who are experiencing depressive symptoms have more difficulty adhering to aseptic techniques, resulting in a higher likelihood of unintentional touch contamination during IV catheter care [56].…”
