Well Count Optimization Incorporating a Wide Range of Uncertainties for the Deepwater Agbami Field

Abstract: This paper describes the methodology for incorporating uncertainties in the optimization of well count for the deepwater Agbami project. The lack of substantial reservoir description data is common in many deepwater discoveries. Therefore, the development plan must be optimized for a wide range of uncertainties. In the Agbami project, the design of experiments or experimental design (ED) technique was incorporated to optimize the well count across a wide range of subsurface uncertainties.Multiple well count de… Show more

“…Marques et al (2013) show a methodology to estimate the value of flexibility. The robustness (Narahara et al, 2004;Moczydlower, B. et al, 2012;Salomão, M.C., 2007) can be associated to NPV or oil production and it is a function of the risk aversion of the companies; for a robust project related to NPV, lower investments can be done to avoid negative or lower NPV values for the pessimistic scenarios; for a robust project related to oil production, higher investments can be done to be prepared to produce higher rates from optimistic scenarios, for instance.…”

“…In this study, a design of experiment (DoE) and response surface (RS) methodology is used to conduct a parameter sensitivity study and prediction uncertainty analysis. The methodology is computationally efficient, suitable for the uncertainty analysis of data-poor settings. , To eliminate uncertainty in k pattern and focus only on parameter uncertainty, a 3D synthetic aquifer is created to represent a groundtruth model with a fully known permeability pattern. This fully heterogeneous model (FHM) is used to gauge the performance of three stratigraphic models of decreasing complexities: a facies model with eight units, a layered model with three units, and a formation model with one unit (Figure ).…”
