Abstract: The present study addresses the challenges in catalytic transfer hydrogenation using methanol/ethanol for converting biomass-derived furanic aldehydes to furfuryl alcohols. The introduction of air-stable Ru(II)-para-cymene catalysts with imidazole-based metal–ligand cooperativity represents a significant advancement.
