Abstract:Werner’s syndrome, a relatively rare and autosomal recessive disorder, is well known to be characterized by a high frequency of malignant neoplasms. Werner’s syndrome has not infrequently been associated with meningiomas. We report a case of Werner’s syndrome and temporal astrocytoma in a 49-year-old male. As far as we are aware, this is the first report of the association of Werner’s syndrome and astrocytoma.
1p deletion correlates with meningioma progression and in this case correlates with histological examination. The chromosomal instability underlying Werner Syndrome could have fostered the complex karyotype.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
