“…This experiment was carried out up to 1600 o C from room temperature with a heating rate of 10K/min (in air), using a NETZSCH instrument (Model Jupiter F3). WaterͲwettability of asͲ received and calcium aluminateͲcoated graphites has been compared by a method reported by Yoshimatsu et al [26]. The quantity of floated graphites at the water surface and sediment volume of at the bottom was qualitatively estimated by taking photo snaps.…”

“…To cope up with these practical problems, the graphite surface has been modified by various methods such as sol‐gel, pelletization, molten salt synthesis, etc . The present author opted for cost‐competent thin sol‐gel coating on graphite and obtained a threefold benefit from this novel material.…”

“…3(c)). These results showed that the amount of LaP 5 and AT-05 treated with LaP 5 O 14 showed the brightest areas, and it also suggested that LaP 5 O 14 crystals partially existed on the graphite powder. From these results, it was evident that the surface modification of graphite powder with LaP 5 O 14 crystals was successfully achieved by the present chemical process.…”

“…Generally, two approaches for the oxidation protection of graphite powder have been reported; (1) surface coating (oxidation barrier layers) and (2) poisoning of active sites on the graphite surface [1]. For example, it has been reported that graphite powder coated with Al 2 O 3 or Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 showed higher oxidation resistance than uncoated graphite powder and the Al 2 O 3 -based oxide coating would act as the oxidation barrier layers [5][6][7]. In addition, attempts to improve the oxidation resistance of graphite powder have been made by the formation of oxide-coatings such as TiO 2 [8], ZrO 2 [9] and Mg-Al spinel (MgAl 2 O 4 ) [10] on graphite powder.…”
