Wettability of Electrospun Poly(vinylpyrrolidone)−Titania Fiber Mats on Glass and ITO Substrates in Aqueous Media

Abstract: Networks of nano/microfibers (fiber mats) have been electrospun from solutions of dispersed poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and a titania precursor onto glass and indium-tin oxide (ITO) plates to study their wettability. Collection time and electrode separation are the two key fabrication parameters investigated, along with the flow rate, polymer molecular weight, and drying conditions, to determine the effects on network morphology and the relationship to contact angles. Measurements indicate that the fiber mats… Show more

“…These spectra often had a fluorescent background that could not be readily replicated by a low-order polynomial. A micro-Raman spectrum of electrospun poly(vinylpyrollidone)-titania composite fibers (PVP-TiO 2 ) 21,22 was chosen as a proof-of-concept for the baseline correction procedure when applied to noisy micro-Raman spectra. In this case, the spectrum was obtained during an investigation for hyperspectral imaging of nanomaterials with structural features that are significantly smaller than the laser spot size (ca.…”

“…46 Mats of nano/microfibres (fibre mats) have been electrospun from solutions of dispersed poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and a titania precursor onto glass and indium-tin oxide plates. 47 To evaluate the wetting properties, we also measured the WCA of the ultra-thin fibre mats which had been treated at 220 C. The findings which are shown in Table 1 make evident that an incorporation of TEOS results in an improved WCA. A doubling of the TEOS portion does not give rise to an enhanced WCA value.…”

“…Glass slides have a higher water wettability than Al foils [34,35] but a much lower thermal conductivity. The macromolecules of PVP are known to immobilize iron ions by weak interactions [36] or steric hindrance [37] acting as nanoreactors for the synthesis of nanoparticles by forming stable metal clusters [38].…”
