What Are the Key Factors Affecting Air Pollution? Research on Jiangsu, China from the Perspective of Spatial Differentiation

Abstract: Based on the spatial Dubin model, two representative atmospheric pollutants comprising industrial waste gas and NO 2 were selected to empirically investigate the effects of eight variables, including the economic growth level, population size, and industrial structure, on atmospheric pollutants and measure the sub-regional effects using data for Jiangsu from 2000 to 2016. The results showed that the population size, economic growth level, rural modernization level, personal income, and introducing high-speed r… Show more

“…Environmental quality is an investment that all and sundry should be involved in because it is a strong driver of economic growth and prosperity. Thus 27 , revealed that citizens’ willingness to pay (WTP) for environmental quality improvement is a right step in the right direction if EG will be realized and sustained. Wang et al 27 stated that environmental protection is a necessity to ensure sound public health and sustainable economic growth.…”

“…Nitrogen oxides (NO x ) in vehicle exhausts consist of NO and NO 2 . The NO 2 mass fraction of total NO x (primary NO 2 ) is of particular importance for several reasons: Its higher toxicity, causing irritation of airways in the human respiratory system and aggravation of respiratory diseases [11,12], its higher atmospheric lifetime compared to NO and because regulatory limits are established for hourly maximum NO 2 (Directive 2008/50/CE, received in Italy by the D.Lgs. 155-13 August 2010).…”

“…According to Grossman and Krueger's research [4] , some air pollution emissions will increase with the increase of GDP when the income is low, and decrease with the increase of GDP per capita when the income is high. On the basis of Grossman and Krueger, Li, Song et al [3] and Wang, Hua [5] continued their research and found out more factors related to air pollution, such as population, modernization level, science and technology, etc.…”
