What do external consultants from private and not-for-profit companies offer healthcare commissioners? A qualitative study of knowledge exchange

“…These risks of costly and unnecessary consulting use might be further accentuated by poor procurement by some clients and their inability to translate and exploit the advice they receive (NAO/Audit Commission, 2010). A study by Wye and colleagues on NHS commissioning bodies, for example, suggests that the contribution that management consultants make depends heavily on the development of 'knowledge exchange strategies' that facilitate client involvement and learning (Wye et al, 2015).
