The predominant way of eliciting risk attitudes is to ask decision-makers to choose between discrete monetary lotteries with known probabilities attached to the payoffs. Yet, arguably, most choices made day-to-day entail continuous outcomes where objective distributions are unknown. This paper investigates responses to continuous “prospects,” employing parametric methods based upon prospect theory under conditions of risk and uncertainty. We find that behavior under uncertainty seemed to mirror that of risk, but there appear to be some differences in how participants dealt with the uncertainty frame compared to risk. Participants appear not to treat “equally likely” outcomes as being “equally likely,” thus demonstrated cumulative probability warping suggested by prospect theory. Participants’ behavior was difficult to fully reconcile with prospect theory, at least to the extent that it is commonly parameterized, perhaps due to endpoints (in particular zero endpoints) being “salient.” Since continuous interval densities have zero mass at zero, this result is curious and has not been reported in experiments using discrete lotteries. We conjecture that although participants on one level understood the nature of the continuous prospects, the format induced a focus on endpoints over and above what would be warranted by the objective distributions given to them.

The foundation of many economies, agriculture depends on luring a fresh generation of highly quali􀅫ied people into the farming industry. This study examines, under the framework of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), the complex dynamics in􀅫luencing people's intentions to pursue a profession in farming. As potential moderators and mediators, it looks into attitudes towards farmers, self-ef􀅫icacy, perceived behavior control, and social capital. 325 farmers provided data using a cross-sectional quantitative design, and Smart PLS was used for the analysis. Although the research offers valuable insights, it is imperative to acknowledge its limits and explore potential avenues for future investigation. A crucial part of the world's food production and sustainability is the agriculture sector. Comprehending the elements that in􀅫luence people's aspirations to become farmers is essential to the development of the sector and its ability to adjust to modern issues. This research expands upon the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) framework by examining self-ef􀅫icacy and social capital, acknowledging their possible impact on the goals of prospective farmers.

This article studies the body of agriculture evidence synthesis in Nigeria as a basis for evidence-informed policymaking (EIPM). EIPM is seen by its advocates as an objective way of identifying problems and proffering solutions that work, given its potential to offer sound bases for choices, helping with more effective decisions, and preventing detrimental policy outcomes. Yet, according to the EIPM literature, policymakers hardly use evidence or use it to justify pre-existing beliefs. At the same time, EIPM is often criticized as being susceptible to bias, especially given the large volumes of research being published that may arrive at different conclusions. One tool that could address these challenges is research evidence syntheses, known to be objective and rigorous, although there is a gap in knowledge on whether they are produced in ways that make them easily usable by decision makers. To bridge this knowledge gap, this study develops an analytical framework from the literature on facilitators and barriers of scientific evidence use to analyze existing agriculture-based evidence syntheses in Nigeria. The analytical framework was used to analyse and identify gaps in these syntheses that may limit their use by decision makers. Based on pre-defined search criteria, we find 19 relevant syntheses which are more qualitative and useful in defining policy-relevant problems; however, they mostly do not provide quotable economic statistics, solutions to address the problems identified, or implementation strategies. Given the currently limited number of evidence syntheses, especially those evaluating effectiveness of policy solutions, stakeholders interested in strengthening EIPM in Nigeria could facilitate collaborations between policymakers and researchers to popularize policy-relevant evidence synthesis and ensure such are made available and accessible to users in timely and usable formats.
