PurposeThe 2020 pandemic disrupted traditional student mobility and forced a larger majority of transnational programmes to switch to a virtual or hybrid mode, including joint and double degree programmes. Therefore, this study aims to perceive the linkage between quality assurance (QA) and delivery modes of cross-border higher education (CBHE) in Asia before and during the pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThrough an online survey and semi-structured interviews, the process by which top 200 ranked universities in the 2022 QS global ranking responded to QA and qualification issues of joint/dual degree programs in conjunction with delivery modes was explored.FindingsThe study has discovered that most respondents from universities, to some extent, tended to be positive about the effectiveness of hybrid delivery of the joint/dual degree programs, even if they still preferred the physical mode to alternatives. Either “divergence” or “responsiveness” QA modes were not applied appropriately in most joint/dual degree programs of the selected universities during the pandemic. Moreover, a fair, transparent and convergent quality and qualification system should be established to facilitate agility and responsiveness of CBHE.Originality/valueThe findings are of value for policymakers, QA agencies and universities to advocate the new QA model for CBHE as a systematic approach in response to changing higher education landscape in the post-pandemic era.

Digital disruption has been the most used and discussed topic in the last 6 years and has been a trending topic on the Google trends, only second to the remote working searched on Google search engines. Most business continuities have been put at risk due to significant reasons like COVID-19, Social distancing norms, and technology disruption to name a few. Businesses especially in UAE higher education sector need to take a holistic view that considers potential threats to an organization and look at providing a resilience framework to respond effectively to safeguard the key stakeholder’s interests. The research study looks at combining the business continuity maturity model and the digital disruption models and suggests a framework that business managers and owners can consider mitigating the risks and enhancing the resilience of their organization for the future. The organization might be able to enhance its brand value and look at creating more value in its services. This study can help managers and top management look at the factors that can improve performance after the disruption. The participants can be trained to work during disruption to mitigate the risk or crisis, reducing major losses in business.

This paper uses the BTM algorithm, which has been improved by word embedding and self-attention mechanisms, to analyze the degree of embedding of innovation theory in college students’ management. By analyzing the principle of attention mechanism and self-attention mechanism, it constructs the embedding analysis model for higher education innovation theory. By analyzing the cw2vec and word2vec models, the expression of innovation theory vocabulary is derived. Based on the improved BTM algorithm, the WESA-BTM model is applied to give higher weights to the subject words with higher subject contributions. Parameter solving, as well as derivation, were used to determine the impact of innovation theory on college students’ management follow-up. The results show that the improved BTM algorithm can effectively analyze the embeddedness of innovation theory in college students’ management, and the WESA-BTM model in Web Snippets is evaluated to be −573.26 at the number of topics of 20 and −561.71 at the number of topics of 40. This study improves the efficiency of college students’ management in colleges and universities to a certain extent.
