“…Volvo's Drive Me project, will put a fleet of 100 autonomous vehicles in the hands of everyday drivers with the promise that they will not need to continuously supervise the vehicle operation. These vehicles will be tested on public roads in Gothenburg, Sweden as a means of defining and evaluating how AVs impact the quality of life and the urban environment [20]. At the same time the UK Government is dedicating financial resources for creating the world's most effective CAV testing ecosystem by building a number of distinct test capabilities.…”

“…In unsupervised autonomous driving, the driver delegates full control and responsibility to the vehicle, to be free to do something else (work, watch a film, etc.). This type of automation requires a vehicle designed for complete support and crash avoidance in all conflict situations (see, e.g., Lindman et al, 2017 ; Victor, Rothoff, Coelingh, Ödblom, & Burgdorf, 2017 ). Supervised automation, on the other hand, only partly supports the driving task (e.g., headway control with some degree of steering assistance), and the driver is still required to supervise the driving and intervene at sensing or actuation limits (e.g., conflict situations).…”

“…In Sweden, Volvo's Drive Me project with the blessing of the authorities, intended to put a fleet of 100 AVs in the hands of regular drivers on the public roads of Gothenburg with the promise that they will not need to constantly supervise the driving activities, as a means of understanding how these cars impact the quality of life and the urban environment (Victor et al, 2017). However, the goal of testing out these vehicles has now been delayed until 2021 after Volvo, famed for its advanced vehicle safety, decided it cannot meet its original deadline.…”
