Which Biopsy Method Is More Suitable Between a Basin Dissection and Pick-Up Biopsy for Sentinel Nodes in Laparoscopic Sentinel-Node Navigation Surgery (LSNNS) for Gastric Cancer?

Abstract: In gastric cancer, it was possible to perform LSNNS. At this moment, we believe the laparoscopic basin dissection technique with a dual-tracer injection, followed by SN detection on the back table, will be a reasonable procedure for gastric cancer, owing to the shortcomings related to the dye and radioisotope, the so-called "stained lymphatic duct only" and "shine-through phenomenon."

“…For the studies utilizing 99m Tc-sulfur colloid, the FNR was 11.4% (95% CI -1.7, 24.6) (forest plot not shown). Five studies [1,17,23,27,35] used DUAL to identify the SLN. A total of 298 patients underwent SLN identification by this method (with a range of 31-92 patients per study).…”

“…A total of 298 patients underwent SLN identification by this method (with a range of 31-92 patients per study). Three studies used 1-1.2 mL of patent blue [1,17,23]; one study used 1 mL of isosulfan blue [27]; and one study used 2 mL of ICG [35]. Four studies used 2 mL of 99m Tc-tin colloid [1,23,27,35] and one study used 0.4 mL of 99m Tc-sulfur colloid [17].…”
