“…With this in mind and as a proof of concept, we herein, for the first time, propose fluorogenic reporter engineering to accelerate ABS for rapidly detecting an unstable chemical named sodium dithionite (Na 2 S 2 O 4 , SDT). SDT is a strong reducing agent and has been widespread used in many industrial fields including pharmaceutical synthesis, paper-making, printing and dyeing of textiles, environmental remediation, and food processing. It is generally acknowledged that Na 2 S 2 O 4 is highly toxic and irritating . Substantial evidence suggested that Na 2 S 2 O 4 can elicit remarkably hypoxic/ischemic injury in neuron and cardiomyocyte. , Based on dithionite-mediated azoreduction reaction, several fluorogenic probes for Na 2 S 2 O 4 by utilizing azo group as both fluorescence quencher and responsive moiety have been designed. , However, Na 2 S 2 O 4 in solution is prone to bond cleavage and disproportionation due to weak bond energy of S–S bond with the generation of other sulfur-containing compounds, such as sulfite and thiosulfate (eq ).…”
