“…Oliver and her colleagues have argued that elevation as one of the other-praising, self-transcendent emotions is particularly relevant for meaningful entertainment, as such content often portrays moral virtues such as altruism, gratitude, charity, or generosity. According to Haidt and his collaborators (Algoe & Haidt, 2009;Diessner, Iyer, Smith & Haidt, 2013;Haidt, 2003b;Keltner & Haidt, 2003) elevation (i.e., feelings of being moved, tender, touched, and inspired) is elicited when witnessing such acts of moral beauty, and when experienced, motivates individuals to emulate the virtuous behaviors.
