Who Pays for Continuing Education in Nursing?

Abstract

This study examines the determinants of employer support for attendance at nursing continuing education (CE) offerings. The experience of 1,171 nurses was examined in relation to their age, educational background, present job characteristics, and annual income. Position level and income were positively related to the extent of employer support. The findings were consistent with the view that employers support attendance at CB offerings based on professional status rather than the needs of nurses.
