Abstract:<p>Temperate and boreal forest trees are dependent on soil microorganisms for the acquisition of limiting nutrients, including phosphorus. These include ectomycorrhizal fungi, which form a symbiotic association with the roots of the trees, and soil-dwelling bacteria.
