Wide-Band Frequency Tunable Antenna for 4g, 5g/Sub 6 GHZ Portable Devices and Mimo Applications

Abstract: A compact (25×28×1.57 mm 3 ) and wide-band multimode frequency tunable antenna with a defected ground structure (FRDGS) for 4G and 5G conformal portable devices and multi-band wireless systems is presented in this article. In a previous study, frequency reconfigurable antenna designs only used the method of adding slots on the patch or ground. In this study, a combination of multiple slots, partial ground, and defective ground structure techniques are utilised to attain the advantages of compactness, wide impe… Show more

“…Furthermore, the recent COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of high throughput network connections for remote working. It is foreseen that the release of Fifth Generation-New Radio (5G-NR) sub-6 GHz spectrum [3,4] using MIMO technology will further advance mobile communications towards 5G [5]. This technology triggered research into MIMO antennas, as this will enable wireless devices with such features in 5G to operate with excellent system throughput and intensive data processing capability.…”

“…As portable devices are becoming lighter and thinner by the day, a typical MIMO antenna for 5G devices should meet specified criteria like compact structure with high gain, steady radiation pattern, and low envelop correlation [4]. The most effective way to make MIMO compact is to replace multiple fixed-performance antennas of MIMO with frequency-reconfigurable antennas, which provide coverage for several wireless applications on the same platform based on switching conditions [5]. FRA also aids in maintaining high data rate and adequate isolation between antenna units within MIMO [6].…”
