Wideband circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna coupled with meandered-line inductor for ISM/WLAN applications

Abstract: A new meandered‐line inductor fed wideband circularly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with partial ground plane has been developed in this work. Meandered‐line inductor feed and partial ground plane are used for generation of orthogonal modes, hence circular polarization (CP) in DRA. By controlling the length of meandered‐line inductor, three different CP DRA have been designed for different wireless applications such as Wi‐MAX and WLAN/ISM 2400 band. Distribution of electric field ins… Show more

“…Design flexibility, wide bandwidth, high efficiency, and gain are remarkable properties of the DRAs which make them more prominent than planar antennas. 1,2 Many antennas are already designed for multiband applications including WLAN/WiMAX applications, 3 ISM/WLAN applications 4 and also circularly polarized Z-shaped cylindrical DRA covers the multiband applications. 5 Wireless radio communication always demanded a high gain antenna which can cover long distance communication without degradation of the signal strength.…”

“…To overcome the feeding complexity, the single‐feed approach can be applied to different/deformed shapes of DR to achieve a wider 3‐dB AR bandwidth. As a result, the antenna can be simultaneously used for various wireless systems . For the commercial application purpose, the antenna designs with less complexity and reduction in manufacturing costs are more desirable.…”

“…For the commercial application purpose, the antenna designs with less complexity and reduction in manufacturing costs are more desirable. In this regard, the different feeding techniques such as coaxial probe, microstrip feed line, conformal strip, and aperture coupling have been utilized for obtaining the CP radiation from the DRA. But still, some of antennas application needed the ground plane and feed position on the same plane so that the antenna system could be easily integrated into the microwave circuits and compatible with printed modern technology such as microwave monolithic integrated circuits.…”

“…Compared with dual feeding technique, single feeding show more attention to the antenna designers because it easily reduces system complexity and also ability to enhance axial ratio bandwidth. To enlarge the CP bandwidth in DRA by using single feeding technique, several methods have been reported …”

“…To enlarge the CP bandwidth in DRA by using single feeding technique, several methods have been reported. [12][13][14][15] In this article, a wideband circularly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) has been presented for Wi-MAX band applications. The proposed antenna coupled through an orthogonal slot, that is, plus-shaped (1) slot and excited with a new microstrip circular ring.…”
