Wideband monopole antenna for DTV/GSM operation in the mobile phone

Abstract: ciency are shown in Figure 8. Over the GSM850/900 band shown in Figure 8(a), the antenna gain varied from about 0.7-1.6 dBi is seen, and the radiation efficiency is all larger than 55%. For the DCS/PCS band [see the results in Fig. 8(b)], the antenna gain is varied from about 2.0 -3.0 dBi, and the radiation efficiency is all larger than 70%. CONCLUSIONA novel printed hybrid antenna consisting of a meandered loop antenna and a monopole slot antenna for GSM850/900/DCS/PCS operation in the mobile phone has been p… Show more

“…It is well known that the first two resonances of the linear straight strip monopole usually show a frequency ratio of about 1 to 3 [22,23]. This also applies to the shorted strip resonator in the proposed design.…”

“…A wide operating band of larger than 140 MHz is hence easily achieved for the PIFA to cover GSM850/900 operation. The coupling-feed design can be considered as an internal matching circuit [2][3][4][5], which requires no additional board space on the system circuit board of the mobile phone and is hence advantageous over the use of the external matching circuits [6 -9] to achieve improved impedance matching of the antenna.…”

“…In addition, the antenna has a simple configuration and fabricate easy. The occupied volume of the antenna is 320mm 3(20 x20xO .8mm 3 ) only, which is among the smallest in the reported internal whole DTV antennas. The antenna is especially suited for application in small-size DTV signal receptions and the handheld mobile devices.…”

“…Recently, digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) has made it possible to deliver broadcast television or other multimedia services to a mobile or handheld device [3][4][5]. The DVB-H standard is designed to operate in UHF bands of IV and V (47o-862MHz).…”
