Widefield light sheet microscopy using an Airy beam combined with deep-learning super-resolution

Abstract: Imaging across length scales and in depth has been an important pursuit of widefield optical imaging. This promises to reveal fine cellular detail within a widefield snapshot of a tissue sample. Current advances often sacrifice resolution through selective sub-sampling to provide a wide field of view in a reasonable time scale. We demonstrate a new avenue for recovering high-resolution images from sub-sampled data in light sheet microscopy using deep-learning super-resolution. We combine this with the use of a… Show more

“…So-called ghost imaging can be one of such application areas [248]. The DL techniques can also pave the way to reach super-resolution in THz imaging as it evolves in widefield light sheet microscopy, for instance, using an Airy beam [437] or to remove non-resonant background as it was done in CARS experiments [438].…”

“…Remarkable, deep learning approach has become a promising method to resolve above problems and is applied in LSM to enhance the resolution and discover intricate structures (Wagner et al, 2021). Dholakia's group combined the use of a non-diffracting Airy light field and a deep-learning method to demonstrate an open-top light sheet microscopy (Figure 4D) (Corsetti et al, 2020). The adoption of deeplearning in their system has demonstrated a near two-fold improvement in resolution whilst maintaining a wide field of view for light sheet imaging.…”
