Wifi fingerprinting localization for intelligent vehicles in car park

Abstract: In this paper, a novel method of WiFi fingerprinting for localizing intelligent vehicles in GPS-denied area, such as car parks, is proposed. Although the method itself is a popular approach for indoor localization application, adapting it to the speed of vehicles requires different treatment. By deploying an ensemble neural network for fingerprinting classification, the method shows a reasonable localization precision at car park speed. Furthermore, a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) Particle Filter is applied to … Show more

“…Though it is not common for indoor positioning systems to achieve sub-metre level accuracy only using WiFi RSS, certain systems could still get very astonishing results by carefully modified models, for example Belmonte-Hernández et al (2019), Own et al (2019), G. Zhang et al (2019, Xue et al (2020), Hoang et al (2019, Soro and Lee (2019) and D. V. Nguyen et al (2018). The results of these systems are summarised in Table 3.…”

“…Therefore, it can be restricted in advanced vehicles positioning based scenarios. However, Several research have been proposed to localize vehicles through Wi-Fi network [65]. As solution to improve Wi-Fi's localization accuracy, the number of anchors should be increasing, this leads to boost up the cost.…”

“…With the rise of multi-floor developments, urbanisation, and smart cities increasing the living space and building complexity, indoor localisation and navigation has played a significant role in assisting users to their destination indoors. Its application has been deployed in commercial buildings [1,2], carparks [3], the health service [4], public transport [5,6], etc.…”
