Objectives: As the evidence base and public demand for integrative health and complementary and alternative medicine continue to grow, the need for pragmatic data to guide its integration into standard medical practice is also growing. A cost-effective way of gathering this data is in conjunction with randomized controlled trials of interventions of interest. Unable to find brief, generalizable instruments to collect willingness to pay and ideal treatment frequency data from the patient perspective in conjunction with clinical trials, we developed the Intervention Frequency and Cost Survey to fill this gap. The current study describes this survey's development and psychometric properties.Methods: Based on a bibliographic review of existing instruments, we developed the first survey version which was modified in an iterative process according to a priori standards for face and content validity, measured using Lawshe's content validity ratio. Second, Pearson's correlations were used to measure test-retest reliability in two demographically-distinct groups of massage study completers with knee pain due to osteoarthritis. Finally, all completers of a massage therapy clinical trial (n=179) were invited to complete the survey in order to collect survey administration feasibility data. Results:Face validity data exceeded a priori standard of 90% on its first presentation to a panel of 10 naïve raters. Content validity, assessed by 10 experts, exceeded a priori standards for each survey item (Content Validity Ratio>0.62), and test-retest reliability was excellent (Population 1: r = .9035, p< .0001, n=28; Population 2: r = .9635, p<.0001, n=10). Response rate was 66%, and average time to complete the survey was 2.1 min (SD=±2.0). Conclusion:The Intervention Frequency and Cost Survey demonstrated high face validity, solid content validity, and excellent test-retest reliability. It is a practical instrument for measuring patient willingness to pay and ideal frequency of massage therapy. Future studies should evaluate use of this instrument for efficient collection of cost and frequency data for additional health interventions.

Abstract:Problem Statement: Outcome expectancies (OE) are anticipations of the results of one's own behaviors. In social cognitive theory research, there have been few studies on OE and none on OE in groups. Approach: Principal component analysis was used to develop an OE for collective psychological performance scale. Relationships between OE for collective psychological performance and demographic variables were explored. Participants were 309 competitive Japanese university athletes in their first to third years at two-year or four-year colleges or universities. Ten items were adapted from a psychological performance collective efficacy (CE) scale and an online survey was conducted through a Japanese Internet research company. Test-retest reliability was confirmed with collegiate athletes recruited from university classes. Content validity and internal consistency were also verified. Purpose: The goal of this study was to develop a measure of OE for collective psychological performance. Then, I used the scale to perform a cross-sectional examination of the relationships between OE and CE for psychological performance and demographic factors. Results: Female athletes reported significantly higher OE than male athletes and team sport athletes reported higher OE than those in individual sports. For male individual and female team athletes, having more team members was related to higher OE. OE was significantly related to number of training hours and team meetings per year for female individual athletes. Conclusions: OE for collective psychological performance is useful for assessing a sport team's psychological condition. Basic data are needed on OE for collective psychological performance to indicate team status and to inform interventions for building high-performing functional teams.

AbstrakPembiayaan kesehatan sekitar 146 (60%) penderita talasemia di Banyumas, tahun 2011 ditanggung rumah tangga dalam bentuk pembayaran langsung (out of pocket payment). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis ability to pay, willingness to pay, dan need assessment pembiayaan kesehatan penderita talasemia di Kabupaten Banyumas. Jenis penelitian ini adalah observasional analitik dengan rancangan studi kasus. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi cross sectional dengan teknik pengambilan sampel simple random sampling. Jumlah sampel penelitian 30 responden yang mempunyai anggota keluarga penderita talasemia di Kabupaten Banyumas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan keluarga penderita talasemia mempunyai kemampuan membayar ability to pay rata-rata adalah Rp34.448,8/bulan dan rata-rata willingness to pay pengobatan talasemia adalah Rp133.833,3/ bulan. Pola pembiayaan kesehatan talasemia di Kabupaten Banyumas menggunakan 93,3% Jaminan Kesehatan Masyarakat (Jamkesmas), 3,3% biaya sendiri, dan 3,3% asuransi kesehatan. Sebelum mendapatkan Jamkesmas, 90,0% responden membayar dengan out of pocket, berhutang, berhemat pada kebutuhan nonkesehatan, dan menjual perhiasan/sawah. Kebutuhan pelayanan kesehatan yang diharapkan keluarga penderita talasemia adalah konsultasi talasemia dan desain khusus ruang perawatan anak. This research used cross sectional approach. Sampling technique used simple random sampling. Total sample of 30 respondents who had had family members suffering from thalassemia in Banyumas. The results showed thalassemia families have an average ability to pay of Rp34,448.8/month and the average willingness to pay for the treatment on thalassemia Rp133,833.3/month. Health financing patterns of thalassemia in Banyumas district uses 93.3% health security, 3.3% personal costs, and 3.3% health insurance. Before getting health security, 90.0% of respondents performed out-of-pocket financing, get loan, skimped on nonmedical needs, and sold jewelry/rice fields to finance thalassemia's health services. Health care needs that expected by thalassemia patient's family is thalassemia consulting and special design of child-care room. Health financing needs of thalassemia's patient family is transportation money to hospital as indirect costs.
