Abstract:Cities feature complex and heterogeneous topographies that create highly-variable airflow patterns and dynamics. The resulting extreme high and low winds challenge urban design's quest for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. This study investigates these urban wind extrema by conducting large-eddy simulations (LESs) in four American cities with distinct topographic features and links the resulting winds to geometric indicators. By analyzing the profile and spatial variation of the wind extrema, the… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
