Wind Tunnel Tests and Wind-Induced Vibration Analysis of Spherical Domes

Abstract: A series of wind pressure measurements on the surfaces of spherical domes are carried out in an atmospheric boundary-layer wind tunnel. The wind pressure distributions on the surfaces of spherical domes including mean and standard deviation are presented.Effects on wind pressure distribution due to wall-height-to-span ratio and rise-to-span ratio, terrain type and Reynolds number are discussed. This study focuses on wind-induced vibration analysis. The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique is adopted… Show more

“…With respect to structural performances of reticulated structures, nonlinear static instability analysis is well worth being studied with consideration of initial geometrical imperfections [5]. Recently wind-induced vibration analysis of single-layer reticulated shells is carried out based on synchronous wind pressure measurement [6] and proper orthogonal decomposition method [7]. Higher-order modes' fundamental contribution to dynamic response is the inherent requirement of thinshell like characteristics of single-layer spherical reticulated shells.…”
