Winter wheat cytogenetic variability under the action of a chemical supermutagen

Abstract: The analysis of cytogenetic activity is a key component in determining prospects of future hereditary variability after, subject to a certain mutagenic factor, primarily identifying the significance of the genotype-mutagenic interaction, the correctness of the selected concentrations for more thorough screening of some development parameters. Winter wheat seeds of eight varieties (Balaton, Borovytsia, Zeleny Gai, Zoloto Ukrainy, Kalancha, Niva Odeska, Polyanka, Pochayna) were subjected to ЕМS (ethylmethansulfo… Show more

“…et al, 2021), which led to both a lower overall mutation rate and a lower level of variability (Nazarenko, 2017;Di Pane et al, 2018). However, this mutagen showed that, firstly, it is significantly less dependent in its initiation of mutations on the source material, at least for this set of varieties (Horshchar & Nazarenko, 2022).…”

“…This study is part of a series of studies analysing the effects of a genotype-mutagenic set of chemical factors on a corresponding set of genotypes. Previous analyses of the data obtained showed (Nazarenko, 2017;Beiko & Nazarenko, 2022;Horshchar & Nazarenko, 2022) a decrease in site specificity with increasing mutagen activity, but when using DMS, the trend reversed, and site specificity increased significantly. This is evident from the pairwise comparison of genotypes but was not reflected in the number of traits with a significant effect of genotype, which may indicate the contrast of only individual varieties.…”

“…The very significant differences in quantitative differences in lighting conditions, temperature and humidity conditions lead to qualitative changes in ontogenesis, primarily for the later stages (Pirych et al, 2021). As a rule, for the situation with the Steppeto the acceleration and intensification of development (Horshchar & Nazarenko, 2022b).…”
