“…This is in agreement with Alatise et al, (2012) who reported that the commonest indication of colonoscopy was chronic constipation (5) . Hernández et al,(2005) also reported that chronic constipation as the commonest indication of colonoscopy (6) . It was shown that rate of complete procedure (cecal intubation) was higher in group I (96.6%) than group II (83.3%) which was statistically significant (p value =0.035); this results were in agreement with Tsutsumi et al,(2007) who evaluated the usefulness of an abdominal bandage for colonoscopy to keep the colonoscope straight in the sigmoid colon without looping throughout the examination (7) .…”

“…The disadvantage of the upper endoscope is its shorter length, but strict adherence to loop reduction and straightening, combined with vigorous abdominal pressure, allows cecal intubation with an upper endoscope in about two‐thirds of cases . When difficulties in advancing the upper endoscope to the cecal tip, the technique of guidewire exchange, may be useful in allowing a pediatric colonoscope to pass through an angulated sigmoid, even when an initial attempt at passing it without the guidewire had been unsuccessful . An alternative to the upper endoscope for dealing with the angulated sigmoid colon is to use a longer endoscope with a thinner diameter than a pediatric colonoscope such as an ultrathin colonoscope or a thin enteroscope.…”

These instruments have the substantial advantage over the upper endoscope of consistently having enough length to reach the cecum once the sigmoid is passed.…”
