Wire Rope Reliability Assessment based on Damage Mechanics

Abstract: In order to estimate the instantaneous reliability during a periodic inspection of a lifting wire rope, analytical methods based on experimental results have been developed. Our approach is to study the influence of number of broken strands in the outer layer on the mechanical behavior of the wire rope. To do this, we have evaluated the damage of the wire rope through a static damage model used to predict the lifetime of the steel wire rope. Then, we estimate the reliability by the Weibull law. Finally, we lin… Show more

“…Hence, the operational reliability of such structures depends mainly on maintenance and monitoring procedures. Uneven force can lead to wire rope breakage, which is a direct cause of several accidents [ [104] , [105] , [106] ]. (6) Reliability of foundation: Choosing crane foundations is also essential.…”

“…In addition to all these, failures can happen in key components such as barrier machines in railroad crossings (Grzechca et al, 2021a) and heavy Earth moving machinery. Maintenance processes in these systems analyse the faults by establishing causal relationships between cause, symptom and fault (Abouelanouar et al, 2018;Wahid et al, 2019). These types of failures are applicable in a variety of industries, including aluminium manufacturing, plastic manufacturing (Kolokas et al, 2020) and photovoltaic production (Arena et al, 2021).…”
