Wireless multi-sensor gas platform for environmental monitoring

Abstract: Air quality control is a monitoring task of high priority in the scope of Smart City and Smart Home applications. In fact, a number of sensors are required to successfully detect the leaks of various gases and their different concentrations. In this work, we present an autonomous multisensory wireless platform which includes both analog and digital gas sensors for environmental monitoring. The platform includes four measurement circuits with sensors of different types: one for analog catalytic/semiconductor ga… Show more

“…With the main goal of improving the overall network operation, fog computing has emerged to extend the cloud computing paradigm to the edge of the network [16]. Fog computing has been created to address, among others, the mobility, geographical, and latency requirements of most IoT applications [17]. Due to the requirement when deploying an increasing number of interconnected devices, power management and selfhealing mechanisms have become two of the key design parameters of fog computing platforms [18][19][20].…”

“…A gas sensor can convert various information pertaining to gas such as components and concentrations, into electrical signals. The daily life and production of human beings, the growth of animals and plants are related to the surrounding ambient atmosphere, so gas sensor is widely used in various walks of life 4 . Humidity is used to indicate the quantity of steam in the air and it is one of the basic parameters of meteorological observation.…”

“…Although the eSports research is in its infancy, there is a fundamental research problem on the data collection synchronization which is relevant for the following areas: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and Body Sensor Networks (BSN) [5], [6]. It is worth noting that for the most application scenarios the data collected by the WSNs and BSNs are typically homogeneous while the data collected for the eSports are truly heterogeneous: physiological, environmental, video, telemetry (keyboard and mouse), game statistics.…”
