Wireless, Portable Fiber Bragg Grating Interrogation System Employing Optical Edge Filter

Abstract: A small-size, high-precision fiber Bragg grating interrogator was developed for continuous plethysmograph monitoring. The interrogator employs optical edge filters, which were integrated with a broad-band light source and photodetector to demodulate the Bragg wavelength shift. An amplifier circuit was designed to effectively amplify the plethysmograph signal, obtained as a small vibration of optical power on the large offset. The standard deviation of the measured Bragg wavelength was about 0.1 pm. The develop… Show more

“…Passive interrogation does not involve active electrical, mechanical, or optical devices. It involves interrogators having passive devices such as filters that are wavelength dependent such as edge filters [42][43][44][45] or wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). 46 Power detection-based passive interrogation is another method, where source having intensity that is wavelength dependent such as erbium-doped amplifier fiber is used.…”

“…FBG sensors have the potential to overcome these problems. A wearable FBG interrogator was developed and can now be used as a wearable multi-vital sign sensor [ 30 ]. We expect this report to be an important step towards realizing the development of these sensors.…”

“…The filter of the presented inclinometer is actuality a section of TFBG written on head face of the fiber. Then, a 15 mm long fiber Bragg grating is written into a common single-mode fiber by using scanning phase mask and a continuous ultraviolet laser beam [ 35 , 36 , 37 ]. The production process includes two steps.…”
