WITHDRAWN: Seismic Analysis of RC framed Building Situated in High Risk Seismic Zone with Recyclable Scrap Tyre Mix for Base Isolation using Finite Element Modeling

Abstract

Sustainable construction is a key component of the current trend. For civil engineers to master the talent of creating sustainable buildings, recyclable materials must be used. These recyclable waste items from industrial uses must be converted into practical building materials. A number of by-products that are particularly harmful to our environment include scrap tyres as a major ingredient. Used and worn-out automobile tyres could be used in construction as a basic isolation element. These discarded tyres will be utilized as bearings or crumbles for seismic shock absorbers. This paper emphasis the performance of a three-storey RC framed building situated in Nepal with and without scrap tyre crumb mix as base isolation material. The applications of SAP 2000 software package is completely applied for the investigation which is very unique. For instance, the dynamic properties of the building with respect to fixed base (without soil-structure interaction effect is studied) such as base shear, acceleration, displacement and frequencies of the building were studied. Subsequently, the dynamic properties pertaining to the implementation of soil-structure interaction analysis, with and without soil-tyre mix is computed and eventually compared with that of the building without soil-structure interaction criteria. The elegance of this paper is that the analysis has been conducted for five different combinations of tyre crumbs such as 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 50%. Furthermore, the investigation has been evaluated for two categories of importance factors such as 1 and 1.2. Moreover, the analysis has been enhanced by further study pertaining to soil conditions such as hard, medium and soft soil as per IS code conditions. From the study it is observed that, 30% tyre crumb combination has superior reduction in base shear, acceleration and frequencies and, increased displacement in all phases of the investigation.
