Wizard of Oz in Designing a Collaborative Learning Serious Game on Tabletops

Abstract: Abstract-This paper aims to introduce Wizard of Oz methodology as an effective method in testing a serious game design which is aimed at enhancing collaborative learning on tabletops. The interface design enables mixed reality over tabletops to engage the players effectively in the learning activities. Additionally, the serious game scenario has been created to learn traffic rules and signs inside a city. The Wizard of Oz methodology was employed to experiment the design. Both questionnaire and observation wer… Show more

“…Creating a safe and controlled environment is the main advantage of connecting metaverses with serious game. These are benefits that offer teamwork improvement (Bozanta et al, 2016), enhancing collaborative learning (Vahdat et al, 2013) or even crisis management training (Loreto et al, 2013).…”

“…To explore these concepts, we proposed different scenarios integrating mobile or collaborative aspects in global learning environments (SEGAREM project described in next section). We also explored lighter applications using scenarios [1] and paperbased prototypes at the earlier stages of a user-centered design approach [12] to measure the collaborative potential of a learning scenario using tangible interactions on multitouch tabletops. This evaluation gave us some hints on the design quality but to go further in the evaluation, we need to implement the game and test some synchronization aspects.…”
