Abstract:The wars that took place during the second half of the 17th and the 18th century are referred to in the scholarly literature as „limited wars”. Their most important features, distinguishing them from earlier and later conflicts, are the limitation of goals and means. The concept of „limited war” is, however, based on a one-sided and narrow analysis. This led to the conflicts during this period, as well as the political, economic and social situation on the European continent, being incorrectly assessed.
