Work Efficiency and Economic Efficiency of Actual Driving Test of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Forklift

Abstract: A 3.5 tonne forklift containing proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) and lithium-ion batteries was manufactured and tested in a real factory. The work efficiency and economic applicability of the PEMFC forklift were compared with that of a lithium-ion battery-powered forklift. The results showed that the back-pressure of air was closely related to the power density of the stack, whose stability could be improved by a reasonable control strategy and membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) with high consist… Show more

“…Customers in China have a habit of preferring inexpensive and shorter-range microcar battery electric automobiles, yet plug-in hybrid SUVs. In contrast, United States customers desire cars for both battery electric vehicles as well as plug-in hybrid vehicles [22]. The top battery electric vehicle models are apt to have a longer scope, and plug-in hybrid vehicles tend to have a diminutive allelectronic scope in the United States compared to China.…”

“…Currently, the front end of a forklift is commonly equipped with a one-piece cantilever beam structure (overhanging beam) [5~8] , which is particularly prone to cause major safety accidents when the forklift is moving in the non-carrying state, such as stab wounds by the front fork to the head of pedestrians. As the market share of forklifts increases continuously, reports of safety accidents caused by the front fork unit are often seen [9,10] . The front fork unit has become a main cause of major safety accidents in the freight transportation industry.…”

“…Lili et al 5) proposed a simulation to solve the problem of effective utilization with prediction methods of power control of electric forklift with Markov chain, fuzzy neural networks and BP. Xiong et al 6) studied the work efficiency and economic test in a real factory using 3.5 tonne forklifts comparing the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFCs) and lithium-ion batteries (LIB). The results show that the work efficiency of PEMFCs powered forklift is 40.6%, a higher work efficiency than from the lithium-ion battery-powered forklift.…”
