Worldsens: Development and Prototyping Tools for Application Specific Wireless Sensors Networks

Abstract: In this paper we present Worldsens, an integrated environment for development and rapid prototyping of wireless sensor network applications. Our environment relies on software simulation to help the designer during the whole development process. The refinement is done starting from the high level design choices down to the target code implementation, debug and performance analysis. In the early stages of the design, high level parameters, like for example the node sleep and activity periods, can be tuned using… Show more

“…We use WSNet/Worldsens [7] eventdriven simulator for large scale wireless sensor networks, that assumes 802.11 DCF MAC layer, free space propagation model and packet collisions. For simulation purpose we assume that nodes are uniformly distributed over a 1000×1000 square and can adapt their range between 0 and R = 150.…”

“…In a second scenario, the data processing part is off-loaded to the BioASIP, while the MSP430 is controlling the system. To enable a welldefined comparison between both systems, use is made of the WSim emulator [9]. WSim is a full platform hardware emulator able to use target binary code as simulation input and a model description of the embedded hardware components.…”

“…An ECG R-peak detection application based on continuous wavelet transform (ECG CWT [3]) is used to verify the merits of the proposed system architecture. For the analysis, we use measurement results in a system-level modelling and simulation tool (WSim [9]). The document is structured as follows.…”
