A computer‐oriented system of geographical and seismic regionalization is proposed in which the surface of the earth is divided into geographical regions along integral values of latitude and longitude. Boundaries of the geographical regions follow established geographical and political divisions as closely as possible; geographical region names follow the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey usage. Seismic regions are defined as combinations of the geographical region and are based on Gutenberg and Richter's region definitions. The proposed system is intended to provide uniformity of geographical description, speed up the regular publication of epicenter information, and aid in seismicity studies.
