Wound-healing and cytokine-modulating potential of medicinal oil formulation comprising leaf extract of Murraya koenigii and olive oil

Abstract: The study investigated the wound healing effect of medicinal oil (MO) formulation prepared from Murraya koenigii leaves extract (methanolic) incorporated in olive oil. The MO was visually transparent, homogenous, smooth in texture, the viscosity grade was observed as 140 cP and easily spreadable. Pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α were significantly reduced to 82.3 ± 3.5, 156 ± 6.2, 137.3. ± 5.5 pg/ml, respectively after treatment with MO when compared to disease control animals that showed IL-1… Show more

“…Sesame oil is rich in many biological active ingredients especially β-sitosterol [ 7 , 8 , 37 , 51 ], which is the active ingredient of a commercially available cream (MEBO ® -cream). Additionally, olive oil has been used in various previous studies investigating its role in the wound healing process [ 8 , 43 , 52 , 53 ].…”

“…Research investigated the wound healing activity of medicated oil formulation obtained from methanol leaf extract of M. koenigii along with olive oil. After treatment given with medicated oil to the treatment group animals, it showed potential reduced effect in inflammatory cytokines such as IL‐6, TNF‐alpha and IL‐1β, compared to povidone iodine solution treated group, respectively [57] …”
