Wound Infections

Abstract: kin protects the body from infection. Breaks in the skin can occur through punctures (like a nail or a thorn), abrasions (scrapes or scratches), or lacerations (rips in the skin tissue). Healthy individuals can develop infections through wounds in the skin. However, it is more likely that persons with underlying immune system (the body' s ability to fight infection) problems will develop wound infections if a break in their skin occurs. The October 26, 2005, issue of JAMA includes an article about use of suppl… Show more

“…Male patients between the age categories of 21-30 years recorded the most significant infection rate (21.43%) on sex versus age group basis ( Table 1). Similar findings by [24] was reported and they assert that age significantly affects the prevalence of wound infections, since adolescents and active-age adults are usually the ones involved in much physical activities such as sports and farming which may expose them more to injuries and infections. Infants and older age individuals are also considered at risk of acquiring wound infections because of the decrease in immune competence with age [25,26], and infants have their immune system at the developmental stage.…”

Due to the increasing emergence of multi antibiotics resistance, wound isolates are causing huge public health concerns hence, the need for exploring some necessary alternatives for treatment of wound infections.…”

“…Human skin provides protection for the body from external environment, preventing dehydration, regulates body temperature, detects cutaneous sensation, and synthesizes vitamin D (Tortora and Derrickson, 2008). The skin barrier can be broken, such as from a wound (Torpy et al, 2005). There are many types wound which have been classified into two groups, open and closed wound (Chandler, 2011).…”
