Wound treatment on a diabetic rat model by a 808 nm diode laser

Abstract: This paper presents a study on the effect of laser irradiation on wound healing. 808 nm diode laser was employed to facilitate the healing of impaired wounds in experimental diabetes using a rat model. Diabetes was induced in male rats by a streptozotocin injection with a dose of 60 mg kg −1 . The disease was verified via measurement of the blood glucose level, which was set having 20 mmol L −1 stability. The rats were randomly distributed into two groups; one served as a control group and the other group was … Show more

“…They hypothesize that NIR light can penetrate into deep tissue injury, which induces the unwounded keratinocytes and endothelial cells in the surrounding skin to migrate into the wounded area for tissue repair. The effectiveness of 808 nm laser in our study also agrees well with previous reports [29,30] of beneficial effects to shorten the inflammatory phase, accelerate the remodeling and promote re-epithelization in the wound healing process.…”

“…Every single variation of each parameter results in different outcomes, and either inhibitory or stimulatory effects in wound healing. Most present studies only emphasize the energy density and total fluencies [14][15][16]; thus, there is a lack of studies that emphasize the effect of different power densities with the same fluencies. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the interaction of two different low power densities, i.e.…”

“…Previous research has investigated the efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of CIR injury in rats [8]. A semiconductor laser has the required characteristics for laser acupoint irradiation therapy: deep tissue penetration, and is therefore the preferred choice for this therapy [9,10]. Transcranial low-level light therapy has gained interest as a non-invasive, inexpensive and safe method of modulating neurological and psychological functions in recent years [11].…”
