Wrinkle-crease interaction behavior simulation of a rectangular membrane under shearing

Abstract: Wrinkling analysis of a rectangular membrane with a single crease under shearing is performed to understand the wrinkle-crease interaction behaviors. The crease is considered by introducing the residual stresses from creasing and the effective modulus into the baseline configuration with assumed circular cross-sectional crease geometry. The wrinkling analysis of the creased membrane is then performed by using the direct perturb-force (DP) simulation technique which is based on our modified displacement compone… Show more

“…Moreover, they also studied the effects of the membrane thickness [23] and the crease orientation [24], deployment angle and load ratio [25]. Wang et al [26] investigated the shear performance of a rectangular membrane considering the wrinkling and creases. So far most of the previous studies only focus on the membranes with single or simple creases.…”

“…Papa and Pellegrino [27] studied the mechanics of a systematically creased square membrane with the Miura-ori pattern. However, to use the thin shell method for creased membranes, the initial imperfections should be quantitatively introduced to the numerical model [26]. In addition, to obtain good deformation results, the refined element meshes lead to a large number of shell elements.…”
