“…The electron-rich Br atom can be a good reporter in X-ray diffraction studies for detecting particular atomic positions in lipid tails consisting of continuous methylene and terminal methyl groups. X-ray diffraction data of a bilayer membrane composed of mono-bromo dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) 1 disclosed the terminal position of the hydrocarbon chain in the membrane, where the terminus of lipid chains was substituted with a Br instead of the ω-methyl group [25].
