“…[49] In the literature, the edge energy of the 1s excitation (K edge) is associated with the effective charge of the photo-induced element and can also be used to determine the oxidation state, with respect to the local symmetry, in complex materials, for example, proteins. There are no reported XANES measurements for similar systems at the Ru:K edge, however, there are a number of papers on Rubased oxides [50][51][52] as well as on Fe-based systems. [53,82] An energy shift per oxidation state of 1.47(12) eV can be found for Ru-based perovskites.…”

“…can be concluded that Ru should have a mixed valence [19][20] of Ru 3+ and Ru 4+ , which could account for the observed increase in the lattice parameters for YMRO compounds within the doping level of Ru substitution undertaken in the present study. The calculated lattice parameters by using the indexed peaks are also listed in Table 1.…”

“…This is clearly evident in the spectrum of tetrahedral (NH 4 )TcO 4 where the 1s → 4d transition at 21047.7 eV is observed to be relatively intense. Studies of various Mo and Ru compounds demonstrate that well resolved pre-edge features can be observed for six-coordinate complexes where the symmetry is not strictly octahedral ( Laplaza et al, 1996 ; Resseler et al, 2000 ; Sikora et al, 2007 ) and it is possible that this is the case here. An alternate possibility, that the sample has partially decomposed to produce a lower-symmetry material during the measurements, cannot be discounted.…”
