YBCO ceramic nanofibers obtained by the new technique of solution blow spinning

Abstract: This study proposes a novel solution blow spinning technique (SBS) for fabricating YBCO ceramic nanofibers. The precursor solutions were obtained from Y, Ba, and Cu metallic acetates (Ac) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP, Mw = 360,000). Ac:PVP concentrations of 1:1 and 5:1 were tested, resulting in ceramic nanofibers with average diameters of 359 and 375 nm, respectively. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of a pure phase of YBa2Cu3O7-x. This is the first study to use SBS for fabricating YBCO nanofibers… Show more

“…8688 Y–Ba–Cu–O oxide ceramic fibers were fabricated for use in superconducting applications. 89 Ceramic nanofibers of TiO 2 and ZnO with high surface area have been fabricated using SBS from a mixture of Ti or Zn sources and polymer in solution, followed by postprocessing. 90 The primary advantage of using SBS to fabricate these materials is increased production rate, which will make processes more cost-efficient and thus more accessible to researchers and markets.…”

“…It is worth noticing that SBS is superior to ES in terms of production efficiency due to its high solution feeding rate per orifice (2.0–10.0 g/h) [ 17 ]. It is reported that SBS can produce tens of times more nanofibers than ES with an improved cost/benefit ratio [ 18 ]. Additionally, apart from restriction on the electrical polymer solution and high-voltage equipment are not required, it is easy to use as a die assembly with many nozzles without considering of electric field interference [ 19 ].…”

“…These materials could also be texturized, thereby increasing the superficial area between nearby grains; this improves electrical junctions and aligns superconductor planes [15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. Recently, BSCCO fibers were obtained by the electrospinning technique [10] by using a sol-gel precursor; these fibers had an average diameter of 150-250 nm with Tc of~78.7 K. Furthermore, our research group has synthesized YBaCu fibers by SBS [22].…”
