Yield and quality enhancement as influenced by pre-harvest nutrient spray in grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) var. Muscat Hamburg by adopting double pruning and double cropping system under Cumbum Valley condition

Abstract: An experiment was conducted to assess the effect of pre-harvest treatments on biometrical, physiochemical and shelf life in grapes variety Muscat Hamburg. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with 14 treatments (T1 (Ca(NO3)2 0.5%), T2 (Ca(NO3)2 1.0%), T3 (KNO3 0.5%), T4 (KNO3 1.0%), T5 (CaCl2 0.5%), T6 (CaCl2 1.0%), T7 (sulphate of potash (SOP) 0.5%), T8 (SOP 1.0%), T9 (T1+T3), T10 (T2+T4), T11 (T5+T7), T12 (T6+T8), T13 (water spray) and T14 (control)) in two replications and imposed at berr… Show more

“…High pruning weight is mainly due to increased assimilation rate of carbohydrates due to more number of canes, number of leaves produced and other growth parameters results in more dry matter production due to high number of canes, number of leaves produced results in more dry matter production. Similar significant variation for pruning weight was found by Jayalakshmi et al [10] in grapes. The genotype Medica recorded the maximum number of initial canes vine -1 (52.35) and mature canes vine -1 (44.00) were found on par with the genotype Thompson Seedless for number of initial canes vine -1 (51.71) and mature canes vine -1 (42.00) While, the minimum number of initial canes per vine (27.60) and matured canes vine -1 (21.00) was recorded in Fantasy Seedless.…”

“…The maximum leaf area was observed in the genotypes Manjari Naveen (140.79 cm 2 ). While, the minimum leaf area was recorded in Fantasy Seedless (119.93 cm 2 ) Genotypes having less number of leaves have recorded higher leaf area and vice versa which might be due to translocation of more photosynthates to the leaf growth which ultimately resulted in higher leaf area Jayalakshmi et al [10].…”
