The aim of this research article is to present a micro case study of the use of Phil Stamper's novel Small Town Pride (2022) for discussing sensitive issues such as sexual diversity with upper-intermediate and advanced learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The findings are based on a reflection of the current state of research as well as of the relevant concepts and theories from the fields of pedagogy, psychology and Englishlanguage didactics. The article makes concrete suggestions regarding how to approach the process of planning and implementing a teaching unit that aims to make LGBTQI+ voices visible in EFL lessons and shows ways of engaging with the novel in a manner that promotes diversity and transcultural learning.
