Infections with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) can lead to severe sequelae; however, they are not notifiable in Germany. We tested urine samples from participants of KiGGS (German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents) for CT infections and linked the results to demographic and behavioural data from 1,925 participants (girls aged 15-17 years and boys aged 16-17 years) to determine a representative prevalence of CT infection in adolescents in Germany and to assess associated risk factors. Prevalence of CT infection was 2.2% (95% CI: 1.4-3.5) in girls and 0.2% (95% CI: 0.1-0.7) in boys. CT infection in girls was associated with higher use of alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes, lower social status, oral contraceptive use, pregnancy, repeated lower abdominal pain and higher rates of doctors' consultations within the preceding three months and consultation of gynaecologists within the last 12 months. In multiple logistic regression, we identified two predictors for CT infection: marijuana consumption often or several times within the last 12 months (F(1,164)=7.56; p<0.05) and general health status less than 'very good' (F(1,164)=3.83; p=0.052). Given our findings, we recommend enhancing sex education before sexual debut and promoting safe sex practices regardless of the contraceptive method used. Well-informed consumption of alcohol should be promoted, the risky behaviour of people intoxicated through consumption of marijuana highlighted and doctors' awareness of CT screening enhanced.

In nationally representative samples, involvement with older partners has been linked to early onset of sexual activity (Marín et al, 2000), ambivalence about sexual initiation (Abma, Driscoll, & Moore, 1998) and an increased likelihood of teen pregnancy (Darroch, Landry, & Oslak, 1999). The role of early dating experiences in magnifying Latina teens' risk of teenage pregnancy deserves further attention.…”

Latino college students (M age = 21.4 years) completed self-report surveys assessing adolescent dating experiences. Compared to young men (n = 69), young women (n = 97) had more limitations placed on them by parents as adolescents and began dating later. No gender difference in timing of the first serious relationship emerged. More young women had their first relationship with a Latino, and having a Latino boyfriend was associated with older partner age. In multivariate analyses, parental level of education was a stronger correlate of early dating experiences than generational status, and stronger findings emerged for young women than young men. The findings highlight the salience of gender as an organizer of early dating experiences among Latino adolescents.

RESUMOViolência sexual contra a mulher é uma das expressões da violência baseada no gênero, que tem como origem o desequilíbrio de poder existente entre homens e mulheres, com maior ou menor intensidade, em todos os países do mundo. Atualmente é reconhecida como um problema de direitos humanos pela ONU, incluindo a violência emocional, física e sexual. A prevalência de violência sexual é muito difícil de determinar, mas provavelmente afeta pelo menos um terço das mulheres alguma vez na vida. Tem variadas conseqüências sobre a saúde física, mental e ginecológica da mulher, as que dependem em grande parte do atendimento recebido logo após a violência. Infelizmente, a maior parte dos serviços de emergência não estão preparados para prestar atendimento adequado. O atendimento deve ser multidisciplinar e incluir anamnese e exame clínico cuidadosos utilizando exames laboratoriais, tratamento das lesões físicas e da crise emocional, prevenção da gravidez e de doenças de transmissão sexual, incluídos HIV/AIDS e com seguimento de pelo menos seis meses. It was recognized as a human rights problem by the UN relatively recently. It includes emotional, physical and sexual violence. Sexual violence is the extreme form of gender violence, usually accompanied by the other types of violence. Its prevalence is difficult to determine, but it most probably affects at least one third of women some time in their life. It has multiple consequences to women's physical and gynecological health, which depends in great part on the quality of the care the woman received immediately after the assault. Unfortunately, most emergency health services, including those in women's hospitals, are rarely prepared to provide the correct care for these women. Care should be multidisciplinary and involves crisis treatment, meticulous clinical examination with complementary auxiliary methods, treatment of physical lesions, prevention of pregnancy and of sexually transmitted infections and AIDS, and follow-up for at least six months after the aggression.
